Island Edge opens

Island Edge has opened in Ala Moana Center and they had a fabulous party Friday night. There was an amazing turnout of the local fashion flock, with everyone from Dale Hope and Leighton Lam to Mamo Howell and Carol Pregill attending.

Although Island Edge is owned by Pomare (Hilo Hattie), it’s a whole different concept in merchandising – much more contemporary and, well, edgy.

Amanda Stevens and I were commenting on how reasonable the prices were on many of the items we spotted. We love the handbags and expected a price tag of about $100. What a joy to find they were half that: $50.

Jodi Salmonson (right) said it was a dream come true to have Marisa Gey model her Martinique dress.

But the best news is that they are carrying some of Hawaii’s most exciting new designers. There’s a rack of Sierra Dew’s inspired hand-printed T-shirts, a section for Roberta Oaks’ latest feminine little frocks and Jodi Salmonson’s gorgeous Martinique collection. There is also a new line by Mamo Howell and the exciting images of Kim Taylor Reese on a line of clothing. You’ll also find Fighting Eel on the racks. And, hey, Soozou bags!

Among the jewelry designers carried at Island Edge are Amos Kotomori, Leighton Lam and Meesah.

Island Edge isn’t just giving lip service to Island designers – they are actually supporting them. Hooray!

I’d love to know who did the interior design of the store. It is gorgeous! And that lovely monstera leaf wall…is it a blown up photograph? Gigantic screen print on fabric? Painted like a mural? How is that look achieved? Please share the info if you know!

It’s not easy to find Made in Hawaii fashions in Ala Moana Center. Let’s be sure to support this lovely new store. Island Edge is located on the mall level, opposite Victoria’s Secret.

I really enjoyed that opening event. I agree the stores design and decor was very tasteful and a great setting for the lovely fashions and jewelry. It is always exciting to see the designers there where their fashions are show cased. This is now one of my favorites stores in Hawaii.
