New show at The Gallery at Ward Centre

The Gallery at Ward Centre is one of my favorite places to peruse. There’s always something new to enjoy, fine art and wearable art alike. The handbags by Lynda Sakraida of Hadji Baba Bags are exactly as she bills them: Original bags for original women. Every bag is hand made by Lynda with innovative ideas for shapes, sizes, fabric combinations and findings. Her bead collection alone is quite amazing!

For jewelry lovers, there are an evolving and revolving plethora of riches by Babs Miyano-Young and Gordon Uyehara. And of course the fine art of such well-known artists as Roger Whitlock, Mark Norseth and Doug Young.

Do you know how the gallery works? It’s a cooperative gallery, meaning each of the artists shares in the rent and the responsibilities. The artists take shifts behind the desk so any time you visit you will be meeting one of them. They all learn about their fellow artists’ work so they can talk intelligently with you about it. It’s a relaxed atmosphere of camaraderie and support.

Don’t miss a visit to this innovative, ever-changing gallery whenever you are in the Ward corridor. It is truly a made in Hawaii enterprise created with the spirit of ohana.
