I attended the Hawaii Fashion Incubator (Hifi) meeting Thursday night and there is lots of news on the Hifi front. After five years of reaching out to the fashion community at all levels and on all islands, Hifi is ready to procure a space (albeit temporary) to determine the interest in a brick and mortar presence for the organization and its members.
Here’s a missive from Melissa White that outlines where Hifi is right now, espcially in regard to the Resource Center. I have signed up to offer an evening seminar on how to promote your small fashion business. How would YOU like to get involved?
For years the Hawaii Fashion Incubator (aka “Hifi”) has been strengthening and promoting Hawaii’s fashion industry through our membership program, events, exhibits, and more. Now our focus is on providing a physical space where members of the fashion industry and greater community can connect, collaborate, and gain access to information, classes, showroom space, workspace, event space, and more! We are starting by organizing a month-long “pop-up” incubator this Spring.
We will rent a space and host classes, workshops, exhibits, events, and trunk shows throughout the month. Some of the events already on the calendar include a stenciling class with Sierra Dew, open workspace with Andy South, a workshop on promoting your line with veteran journalist Paula Rath, and a fashion-themed Pecha Kucha event (http://www.pecha-kucha.org/). Hawaii RED Magazine is our media and promotional partner for the event.
We need your support and involvement to make this concept successful. We’ve started an online fundraising campaign through crowdsourced creative funding engine Indie GoGo. Our goal is to raise $5000, and we have 60 days to do it! Visit our campaign page to see a video about Hifi and pledge your support to our cause – donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law. You can also help by signing up to host an event, teaching or taking a class, volunteering at the space, or referring us to potential sponsors for donated goods and services (printing, building materials, etc.). And last but not least, spread the word!
Wishing you all a fashionable and prosperous New Year,
Melissa M. White, Co-Founder

Please send a link to any friends who want to be involved with the Hawaii’s fashion industry. There is simply no better way to get involved than to join Hifi and get active with the Resource Center.
