Hawaii’s next Project Runway contestant?

Reise Kochi, one to watch.

There’s a new fashion talent rising in Honolulu. He is Reise Kochi, a 2010 graduate of Honolulu Community College. In fact, Reise was named Designer of the Year for HCC in May.

Now Reise is honing his skills working as an intern with Andy South. Although it has not been stated directly, I believe that Andy is helping Reise prepare to audition for Project Runway.  Auditions are not until January, so we’ll just have to wait and see.

Reise’s aesthetic is a little like Andy’s, a bit edgy and architectural. He uses a lot of black, as well as texture, in his pieces. They make a good team.

Reise works on a vest lining in Andy South's Chinatown studio.

“He’s a great designer and creator,” Andy said of Reise. “He’s just here to learn  more about pattern making and construction.”

How fortunate he is to have Andy as his mentor.

It would be great to have Hawaii represented again by an awesome designer!

Reise is insanely talented. I don’t doubt that he’d find success without PR. But if he does go that route, he definitely deserves to be there!
